This recital is centered around the Mexican holiday of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. This holiday dates back to my earliest ancestors, the Mexica people, which includes the Aztecs and other tribes of central and northern Mexico. Still celebrated to this day, with the inclusion of Spanish and Catholic influences, Day of the Dead is an enormous celebration of the lives of our loved ones who have passed away. At the intersection of countless cultures and stories, this program will journey through repertoire expressing the sadness and loss of death, and conclude with pieces that express the joy and gratitude of life, love, and spirituality. I hope this performance will serve as a tribute to all my loved ones, as well as to the beauty of life, which deserves our eternal gratitude.
