Curator Note
This is not merely a performance, but a voyage across time, exploring the rich tapestry of music that has shaped different eras. From the classical elegance of centuries past to the dynamic rhythms of contemporary compositions, each piece is a chapter in the story of our shared musical heritage. To let the audience quickly feel the charm of the double bass, the repertoire chosen covers the Baroque period to the music of our time ranging, from J.S. Bach to Mason Bynes. You can feel the brightness and brilliance of Bach’s suite, the melodic narrative in Bottesini’s Concerto, and the liberating sense of freedom in “The [WRECK]oning” which blends jazz elements… Let’s embark on this transcendent musical journey together, celebrating the timeless beauty of music across the ages!
Shiying Feng, double bass, began her musical studies at the age of four. After graduating from the China Conservatory of Music, she continued to pursue her master’s degree at the Longy School of Music, where her different musical education in China and the West made her passionate about exploring the connections and differences between music from different cultures. Throughout her musical career, as associate principal bass of the China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, she participated in the “Imagery of Silk Road”, a program funded by China’s National Arts Foundation, and performed in “Guo Lanying Artist Achievement Concert”, “Rhythmic Norther Territory”, “Pure Mozart” themed Concert”. She has also performed in Beijing, Changsha, and other cities in China for the New Year Concert Tour.
