The New School of Music seeks a music education assistant for a summer position Mon – Fri, July 8 – Aug 16, 2024.
NSM is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable, and motivated individual who loves working with kids. This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with the NSM teaching staff in musical theater and instrumental programs. The assistant will work directly in the class with the program director and student participants; they will be also be responsible for organizing and overseeing activities for extended day students.
This position requires a commitment of 35-40 hours a week, Monday-Friday. Duties include but aren’t limited to: helping students one on one, aiding in supplemental group activities, assisting with the development of the final performances and daily prep and clean-up. The assistant will be expected to supervise students in age groups ranging from 5-14 years old and interact with parents, staff, faculty; strong interpersonal skills are a must.
COMPENSATION: $18/hr
HOURS: Summer programs run from 9:00am to 4:00pm July 8 – July 26 and 9:00am to 3:00pm (July 29 – Aug. 16) and. Depending on registration, the assistant may also be responsible for before care (starting at 8:30 am) and/or after care (ending no later than 5:30 pm). The music education assistant will need to be present for the full day; they will have a 1 hour lunch break.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have proven experience and confidence in working with youth ages 5-14. A musical background is preferred but not required, as is a degree or degree-in-progress in music, theatre, or education.
Reliability and integrity are a must.
