Middle School Music Teacher/Chamber Ensemble Director

Job Summary:

BB&N is seeking a part-time Middle School Music Teacher/Chamber Ensemble Director to join our dynamic and collaborative team. Within our MS Arts Department, we offer both visual and performance programs to grades 7&8. Responsibilities for this role include teaching general music classes as well as a musical piano accompanist for 8th grade MS musical and creating and leading three instrumental ensembles 1x/a week (two meetings after school) and other projects as needed.

Our MS music program aims to help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences, which include singing/listening to music, playing instruments, music theory skills, and music history.

BB&N seeks a General Music/Chamber Ensemble teacher candidate who is:

Skills and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music instruction and significant experience at the middle school level. A Bachelor’s degree in music is required. While a master’s degree in the field of music/ education and at least two years of school experience are preferred, we understand that not every great teacher’s path to teaching is linear. The candidate should also have professional-level proficiency in at least one orchestral instrument and/or piano accompanist experience.

In addition, the candidate will demonstrate the following:

Competence in arranging music for mixed ensembles and familiarity with music writing software Sibelius.

Experience leading annual concerts, partnering with other faculty for musical productions, and co-planning/co-leading Middle School assemblies.

Passion for a variety of music genres and the richness of the musical experience through collaboration and creation of curriculum with colleagues.

Dedication to working with and an understanding of the developmental needs of middle school-aged students

Commitment to fostering an inclusive community and promoting a growth mindset

Capacity to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues

Salary: $67,000.00 – $97,400.00

BB&N offers competitive salaries and benefits and employs equitable and consistent compensation practices. Our compensation strategy prioritizes equity of pay for faculty with similar years of teaching and other related experience. Full-time starting salaries for the 2023-2024 school year typically range from a starting salary of $67,000 to the median 20 year teaching experience salary of $97,400. Both of these salaries are exclusive of additional compensation granted to faculty with relevant advanced degrees. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands.

Compensation for full-time employees includes a 403(b) plan with up to a 10% match of salary and other competitive benefits offerings. Benefits offered to eligible employees include health & dental insurance; commuter benefits; long-term disability insurance, and more.
