Celebrated composer, guitarist, and recording artist Dr. Bill Banfield brings his eclectic chamber ensemble, Imagine Orchestra to Pickman Hall at Longy!
Banfield has written works that have been commissioned by several leading orchestras, recorded by prominent labels, and performed by the likes of Bobby McFerrin, Nnenna Freelon, and many others.
The Imagine Orchestra—joined by five Longy students for this specially curated concert—is a chamber jazz ensemble featuring some of Boston’s brightest musical talents with an approach to composing and performing where the music is both fully orchestrated and improvised.
In Dr. Banfield’s own words: “Think Ellington meets Charles Mingus, Ornette Coleman, and Frank Zappa and Miles Davis meet Gill Evans.”
