Graduating Student Recital • LOVE IS WHAT MATTERS • Jessica Sanz, soprano

All Longy students present full recitals as part of their education and ongoing evolution as artists. They are charged with thinking critically about what stories they tell, whose voices to amplify, and who’s in the room for their event while also considering how to use performance spaces in innovative ways and how to truly engage audiences and create interactive music experiences.

Jessica Sanz, soprano, was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. Ms. Sanz obtained her bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Miami, and currently pursuing a master’s degree in Vocal Studies at Longy School of Music.

Starting her career at a young age, Ms. Sanz participated in choirs and vocal ensembles during her childhood leading her to pursue her music career professionally. In her hometown, she participated in several competitions winning first prizes with the vocal ensemble Ensemble Relativo.

In 2014, Ms. Sanz moved to the United States to continue her career. In Miami, FL, she studied at the New World School of the Arts for her associate in arts, where she participated in and won the Concerto Competition, also Ms. Sanz played scene roles as Carmen in Carmen, Mallika in Lakmé, Sandman in Hansel & Gretel, and Dorabella in Cosí Fan Tutte. Later, participated in the Miami Music Festival in the title role of Radamisto. Lastly, during her time at the University of Miami, Ms. Sanz played the role of Geraldine in A Hand of Bridge. Moreover, she participated in concerts throughout South Florida as a soloist and vocal ensemble. During her time in South Florida, Ms. Sanz collaborated with musicians and composers being part of recording productions and world premieres.

In 2021, Ms. Sanz moved to Boston, MA where she currently resides, during her first year at Longy School of Music played the title role of Alcina, participated in the La Voce Totale competition where she performed as a soloist, also did scene roles of Fiordiligi in Cosí Fan Tutte, Elektra in Idomeneo, conjointly of several participations as soloist with Orchestra Flex.
As a teaching fellow at Longy School of Music and freelancer educator, Ms. Sanz could work under the umbrella of El Sistema and assist as a teacher assistant for organizations such as Boston City Singers and Schools such as Cambridge Ridge Latin School and Somerville High School. Ms. Sanz also has been part of the organization team for events and recitals for her students’ showcase.

Ms. Sanz is finishing her master’s at Longy School of Music.
