Night and Dreams, Orchestra FLEX’s final presentation of the semester, was programmed collaboratively with director Andy Kozar and members of the student led Programming Committee. Exploring ideas surrounding memory, place, and home, this performance will feature works from the traditional canon by Felix Mendelssohn and Charles Ives, adaptations of folk music from the Philippines and China, and world premieres by Longy student composers Ryan McAvoy and Charlotte Koonce.
Orchestra FLEX is a re-imagined orchestra which provides an opportunity for large ensemble projects without being limited by instrumentation. Defined by the group’s collective voice, students take part in the full process of orchestral programming, navigating the real-world challenges and discoveries of concert production, planning, and performance while exploring the intersections of musical tradition, arrangement/composition, improvisation, technology, and innovation.
