Carlo Bunyi, baritone | Graduating Student Recital

Filipino baritone Carlo Miguel C. Bunyi is a Boston based soloist and teacher whose dedication to his craft and stylistic versatility has led him to explore a diversified range of musical activities both domestically and internationally. Carlo is a founding member of PASIPO, a Filipino vocal ensemble, with whom he performed as a featured soloist in the Philippine premiere of J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 131, Aus der tiefen ruf ich Herr zu dir.

As a versatile artist, Carlo has essayed the role of Simone in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, sung in the chorus of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. He was also featured in the Philippine Opera Company’s Young Artist Series. Recently, he took part in the first reading of Niloufar Nourbakhsh’s new opera “We the Innumerable” held at Opera America. He also performed at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Massachusetts as part of the Longy Student Showcase.

Futhermore, he sang alongside performing groups such as the Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble, the Thomasian Chamber Choir and the Boston Camerata.

Carlo has participated in masterclasses by Maestra Irma P.E. Potenciano, Arthur Espiritu, Jeffrey Gavett, Dana Varga, Andrea Huber, Timothy Long and Nyela Basner and has received coaching from Byeong-In Park, Carol Mastrodomenico, Thomas Enman, Brian Moll, Noriko Yasuda and Dr. Libor Dudas. Carlo finished his Bachelor’s degree in Music majoring in Vocal Performance at the University of Santo Tomas (Manila, Philippines) under the instruction of Dr. Eugene delos Santos and is now pursuing his Master of Music degree in Vocal Studies at the Longy School of Music under the tutelage of Metropolitan Opera artist Jeff Mattsey.

Carlo is a member-artist of the Lyric Opera of the Philippines and currently serves as a cantor at Saint Ann Parish in Quincy, Massachusetts.
