CANCELLED–Ensemble Uncaged: Fundamental/Elemental: Penelope | Andy Kozar, co-director Rachael Elliot, co-director

Sunday • May 3, 2020   |   7:30 pm

This event is cancelled. Follow Longy’s update on our coronavirus response.

Penelope is a song cycle by composer Sarah Kirkland Snider, with lyrics by playwright Ellen McLaughlin, featuring vocalist Shara Worden and the chamber orchestra Signal. Inspired by Homer’s epic poem, the Odyssey, Penelope is a meditation on memory, identity, and what it means to come home.

Longy’s premiere contemporary music ensemble will explore diverse programs that encourage performer and listener alike to examine the fundamentals and elements of music. Each piece and program will frame ideas through rhythm and melody, harmony and texture, form and dynamics. We’re taught that these elements make up the fundamental building blocks of music, but in the 21st century, is that actually true? Join Ensemble Uncaged as we explore these illuminating concepts!
