Music Belongs to Everyone, Everywhere

No matter who you are, your music has the power to strengthen communities, restore mind and body, and drive social change.

But it’s personal. That’s why at Longy School of Music, we don’t prescribe your studies. Instead, we empower you to curate your own artistic journey, create new career possibilities, and blow the traditional canon wide open. Here, making music personal, accessible, and relevant is at the heart of everything we do.

Course Highlights

GENDER BENDERS AND TREND-DISRUPTORS

Vocal Studies students perform nineteenth-century lieder that would traditionally be off-limits to their voice-type, gender, or sexuality. Separate lieder from its cis-heteronormative, male-centric worldview, and bring it into the twenty-first century with alternative character perspectives.

IDENTITY AND CULTURE IN THE CLASSROOM

Master of Music in Music Education students examine laws around special education, classroom terminology, and the latest methods in adapting lessons for students with disabilities. Learn how to make content accessible for all students by studying the impact various disabilities have on hearing, reading, and making music.

Artistic Life in Boston

Boston isn’t merely a backdrop–it’s the stage for your artistic pursuits and an integral part of the Longy experience. Be immersed in a vibrant, artistic city with hundreds of ensembles, opera companies, theaters, orchestras, dance troupes, and museums that will excite and inspire you.
