A native of Italy, Danilo Bonina earned his Bachelor of Music in violin from the F. Torrefranca Conservatory in Vibo Valentia. He made his solo concert debut in 1996 at the Bastione Toledo in Crotone. Winner of the “Venetico”, “Pedara”, and “Pizzo Calabro” International Competitions, he received his Master of Music degree cum laude from the Mannes College of Music in New York where he studied violin with Nina Beilina. He has performed in Master Classes given by Jamie Laredo, Ruggiero Ricci, Nina Beilina, Rachel Podger, Robert Mealy, Elizabeth Blumenstock, Phoebe Carrai, Aisslinn Nosky, and others. Dedicated to studies of music history, harmony and counterpoint, analysis, rhetoric, and music pedagogy, he studied, among others, with Professors Antonio Polignano, Christopher Stone, Karl Schachter, Fredric Fehleisen, Kyle Adams, Dana Maiben, Vivian Montgomery, Na’ama Lion, and Ann Setzer.

Devoted to early music, Mr. Bonina obtained his Graduate Performance Diploma in Historical Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, under the guidance of Dana Maiben. He is the founder of the Ars Vetus and Corelli Collective, historical ensembles focused on the study and revitalization of early repertoire spanning from medieval to late baroque music. He has performed as soloist or principal player with orchestras such as Bachanalia Festival Orchestra, Bach Society Orchestra, Ensemble du Monde, Eudaimonia, Oriana Consort, Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra, Harvard Early Music Society, and many others.

He has performed in prestigious halls such as Carnegie Hall, Verizon Hall, Merkin Hall and Alice Tully Hall, Sanders Theater, The Ukrainian Institute of America, The Center for Jewish History, the Spanish Consulate “Queen Sofia”, Kaye Playhouse, and others, and has worked under the baton of prominent conductors such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Masaaki Suzuki, Otto Werner Mueller, Joann Falletta, Joseph Colaneri, Nicholas McGegan, Peter Maag, Paul Nadler, David Hayes, Andrew Megill, Murray Forbes Somerville, and others. Devoted to teaching, he has over twenty years of experience training students of all ages, coaching chamber groups and orchestras, and teaching music history and theory classes.
