Culturally responsive teaching is not just a concept taught at Longy—it is the philosophical current that runs through our music teacher education programs. Longy trains teachers who give students the tools to take ownership of their learning in any setting: public school, private school, preK-12, higher education, private studio, or anywhere you could teach music. And because students recognize authentic empowerment, culturally responsive teaching is present in everything we do.
“After only two semesters in the Longy MMME program, I can truly say that my teaching has been completely transformed. All of this success is seriously thanks to the MMME program and all of the amazing teachers I’ve had these past eight months. You’ve all helped me so much and now this work is really shining through my amazing students. Thanks for helping me be the best teacher I’ve ever been!”

“I’ve grown in so many ways in this program. I’ve learned about education standards and processes, but I’ve also learned how to pace myself and take care of myself in this field.”
