William Cheng is Chair and Professor of Music at Dartmouth College. He is the author of Sound Play: Video Games and the Musical Imagination (Oxford, 2014), Just Vibrations: The Purpose of Sounding Good (Michigan, 2016), and Loving Music Till It Hurts (Oxford, 2019); and the coeditor of Queering the Field: Sounding Out Ethnomusicology (Oxford, 2019), A Cultural History of Music in the Modern Age (Bloomsbury Academic, 2024), and the Music & Social Justice Series from the University of Michigan Press. His writings have appeared in Washington Post, Slate, Huffington Post, TIME, Pacific Standard, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.
