Medieval Paris was a vital center of musical innovation and creation, fostering debate and discoveries that defined much of music as we know it today. We can find the roots of many liturgical innovations, polyphony, solo song with moral content, and secular music in this period. Anne Azéma explores these innovations in a semester-long course that will culminate in The Miracles of Notre Dame, as well as A Medieval Christmas: Hodie Christus Natus Est.
