This graduation vocal recital will revolve around the theme of “dreams.” The repertoire will include musical numbers, opera arias, art songs, Japanese songs, and oratorio pieces. The stage will have a staircase, which symbolizes the path to the future. The recital will feature a unique and personalized structure that sets it apart from a typical concert. The singer aims to convey the message that dreams are essential and that one should always pursue them. Through the songs, the audience will be taken on a journey that reflects the singer’s personal experiences, struggles, and aspirations. Takaaki Matsumoto is native of Osaka in Japan. He came to the US in 2019. Among his prior roles include various operas such as “Maria de Buenos Aires” as Payador, “Phoebus und Pan” as Pan, G&S’s “Iolanthe” as Private Willis, G Verdi’s “Traviata” as Giuseppe, Commissioner and Flora’s Servant at Opera North, Libby Larsen’s “Silver Fox” as Squire (cover) and performed in the chorus, as well as roles in “The Pirates of Penzance” by G&S as Samuel at Marblehead Little Theatre, in the chorus of “Alcina” by Handel, as Baron Pictordu in “Cendrillon” by Viardot, as Waiter in ”Roman Fever” by Robert Ward(Canceled due to Covid), as Sylvester in “Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters” by Ned Rorem (Canceled due to Covid), as Guglielmo ie scenes from “Cosi fan tutte” by Mozart, and as Notary in “L’elisir d’amore” by Donizetti and perform as a dancer in El Amor Brujo. He studied under Robert Honeysucker, Carol Mastrodomenico, and Noriko Yasuda. He is not only singer but also a professional magician. He trained under Mr. Shin and performed magic at bars, restaurants, parties, etc. He has also studied classical ballet and jazz dance since childhood.
