The “Postmodern Journey” signifies a voyage through the rich, transformative landscape of postmodern jazz. By delving into the works of influential composers from the 1950s and 1960s, this recital reveals how their groundbreaking approaches shape and inspire the current jazz scene. Join us as we explore this unique and evolving musical realm, where past innovations resonate and create new possibilities for the future.

Sen Jia’s recital explores the influence of postmodern composers from the 1950s and 1960s on modern jazz. Over the past two years, he has deeply studied these composers, including Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson. The recital features his own arrangements, including solo, trio, and quartet versions, of works by these two influential composers known for their post-modal and postmodern compositions.

Sen Jia‘s academic and artistic interest in this period stems from its role in the development of contemporary post-modal and postmodern jazz. The composers he has focused on played a significant role in shaping this musical evolution. Through detailed study of their repertoire, Sen Jia aims to present a narrative of how their innovations continue to resonate in modern jazz.
