From Earth to Fire | Sergio Pallottelli, Flute
Saturday • January 25, 2020 | 8:00 pm 9:30 pm
An evening of the elements with works by Schubert, Schnyder and Franck.
Longy flute faculty Sergio Pallottelli presents a recital of two masterpieces of their time. Schubert’s sonata for the extinct Arpeggione, a bowed guitar of the 19th century, that had only a few years’ existence until it went out of use. This wonderful sonata survived and is most often played on cello, viola, or flute. The middle part of the recital is a setting to music of the four elements, Earth, Water, Air, and Fire, by Swiss composer Daniel Schnyder. The program ends with the monumental Sonata in A major by César Franck, originally for violin but now a staple of the flute repertoire as well.
