In celebration of Marti Epstein’s 60th birthday, the Ludovico Ensemble will present a career-spanning mini-festival of her music, including several works commissioned and premiered by the group. The Ludovico Ensemble has been performing Marti Epstein’s music since the group was founded in 2003. Her artistry and advocacy has been pivotal to the development and continuing success of the group, and on the occasion of her 60th birthday we are presenting three concerts of her music celebrating her singular compositional voice and the enormous impact she has had on musical life in the city of Boston.
In the last 16 years, Ludovico Ensemble has performed over a dozen of Marti’s pieces, including the premiere of three major pieces of chamber music: Hypnagogia for mixed septet, Dirl for mixed quintet, and Mary Magdalen for soprano and cimbalom. The Longy School of Music of Bard College is hosting the Ludovico Ensemble for three concerts, each featuring a performance of one of these major commissions, complemented by works for similar instrumentations spanning Marti’s career.
