A Far Cry | Keep Calm and Carry On

Keep Calm and Carry On is our UK-inspired season finale tribute to the entire A Far Cry family. For your heroic support, we offer up a playful homage to those best-loved British television series, from The Crown to Downton Abbey. Exploring both the ‘high’ and ‘low’ music of England, the program reflects our favorite characters and landscapes from the screen. Purcell’s ‘The Gordian Knot Untied,’ a poised and (dare we say) snooty work evocative of royalty, takes us on a tour of the finest Elizabethan estates. Then, by stark contrast, we dive straight into a set of spirited lowcountry fiddle tunes and British drinking songs. Framing these selections we have Wallen’s Photography and Walton’s Sonata for Strings, both string orchestra works that portray the entire varied cast: the Wallen through a contemporary lens, and then the Walton with its dramatic display of styles from ‘proper’ boy chorister influences to folksy roots in the rural English countryside.
