Program Notes
The repertoire in this recital is related to Vienna, which is why I named my recital “Crossing Vienna.”
Imagine yourself in 19th century Vienna, experiencing the beautiful ambiance of Viennese cafes during that era. “They were actually a kind of democratic club where anyone could enter as long as they ordered a cup of coffee. Every customer could sit for a few hours by spending such a small amount of money. People would discuss, write, play cards, read their own mail, and best of all, read countless newspapers for free.” Feel the atmosphere of the Viennese cafes from that era, where numerous painters, musicians, writers, actors, dancers, and revolutionaries gathered, many of whom later became great figures now renowned worldwide. People would meet, discuss, or argue in the cafes, and some gatherings would even last until the early hours of the morning.
If I could travel back to Vienna during that time, I would choose not to go anywhere else. I would simply sit quietly in a corner of the cafe, observing these individuals who had no knowledge of what the future held, yet were still brimming with creativity.
