All Longy students present full recitals as part of their education and ongoing evolution as artists. They are charged with thinking critically about what stories they tell, whose voices to amplify, and who’s in the room for their event while also considering how to use performance spaces in innovative ways and how to truly engage audiences and create interactive music experiences.

Chuyue Xu is a student of John Morrison.

Program Notes:
Like a concert between friends, I want a my audience to have fun. I hope to create a relaxing, chilling and a little creative vibe. How can I do that?

One piece, “Hopeless”, goes from hopeless to hopeful, which is a kind of relaxation. “Righft” is rather a fun piece, using unusual sounds on the piano, with one player on the right and one on the left, so that helps produce the atmosphere I want. “How does April taste?”, being a little jazz-influenced, brings a touch of chill. One of the songs uses a text that delivers one emotion when read forward, and the opposite when read backwards, which will set a creative vibe. My other song on the program uses an ancient Chinese text, bringing a colorful past to the present stage. And the short film score will provide a visual component that is quite fun.

Biography:
Chuyue Xu, as a composer, virtuosic technique and sensitive musicianship consistently leaves a lasting impression. She graduated from the Composition Department of Sichuan Conservatory of Music with a bachelor’s degree, and began to learn piano at the age of four.
