Eventide: Radius Ensemble | Ensemble-in-Residence

Weaving together ancient and modern, David Gompper’s Kuta Muela, “old stick,” is based on a Native American melody and performed with a companion film, Huya Ania (The Wilderness World). The evening air in Vienna often carried “serenades” of woodwinds on the breeze. A popular genre, Mozart wrote more than a dozen during his lifetime. Here, a rare opportunity to hear one that isn’t Eine kleine Nachtmusik, in a minor key at that! Boston composer Beth Denish will be present for the world premiere of her Star IV for viola and percussion, which explores contrasts of improvisation and traditional score interpretation. Also on this program, Rhonda Larson’s Be Still My Soul, which finds its roots in a famous melody by Jean Sibelius.
