Longy alum Kimberly Musial (MM 03) is taking the music business skills she learned at Longy to her new position as District Director of Fine and Performing Arts at Huntington High School in New York’s Huntington Union Free School District.

“I have been involved in arts and educational administration since taking a music business course at Longy. From starting my company, Luminous Sounds, Inc., to working within public school districts, I have always been able to see the big picture and work to grow music and art programs. To have the opportunity to do that full-time in such an amazing district is something that I have been working towards for years,” said Musial.

The mission of the Huntington Union Free School District (HUFSD) is to educate students by effectively teaching an enriched body of knowledge through the active participation of all students, building upon their unique talents and abilities to produce creative, self-assured, responsible citizens who are capable of critical thought and action.

Expressing her enthusiasm for her new role, Musial remarked, “I am looking forward to working with a phenomenal faculty with already

well-established art and music programs and continuing to push these programs to new heights. I am excited about the opportunity to support educators and enable them to reach all students in our community.”

Kimberly Musial began her musical studies at the age of eight. Since then, she and her viola have traveled the world, playing in a diverse selection of noted professional orchestras and music festivals at famed venues such as Carnegie Hall, NBC Studios, and the Verizon Center, and under some of the world’s most renowned conductors like Kurt Masur, Andre Previn, and John Rutter.

Before earning her Master of Music in viola at Longy, Musial obtained a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance at the University of Houston and a Master of Science in Arts Administration at Shenandoah University.

Previously, Musial was the Director of Orchestras for Levittown Public Schools, conducting two orchestras per day and rotational lessons. She also served as the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Festival Chairperson for the district, organizing the 2022 Levittown NYSSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival which hosted more than 1,300 students across Nassau County.

Musial has also been the Director of Orchestras for the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District; Chairperson of Music for East Meadow Schools; and Director of Orchestras and an instructor of interdisciplinary arts at the Portledge School in Locust Valley, New York.

Using her musical knowledge and experience, Musial built Luminous Sounds, Inc., a company offering unique arrangements of classical and contemporary music for luxury events, performed by hand-selected, conservatory-trained professional musicians. She also enjoys an active freelance career and teaches private viola and violin lessons at her studio in Suffolk County.
