In July of 2020, it wasn’t possible to gather in person for the El Sistema Summer Academy we know and love. Longy’s team pivoted to an all-virtual experience and in the process connected youth from Massachusetts to Colorado to Venezuela for two weeks of musical immersion. We provided free, robust education for over 100 youth who had to remain in their homes as COVID continued to spread and gave them the training to make music with peers virtually after the Summer Academy finished.

Sistema Side-by-Side continued delivering high-quality music education to children who might not otherwise have access. This year, the impediments to access were even greater but – with your support – Longy and kids throughout the Americas joined together online for classes, lessons, and even performances.
