On The Rise (https://www.ontherise.org/) is a daytime program and community for unhoused women and trans/nonbinary individuals moving through crisis. Each year we have a ceremony at On The Rise, to remember the women/trans/nonbinary individuals in our community as well as those important to our community who died during the course of the previous year. The event is something that On The Rise created in response to the participants in our programs, who cope with enormous loss, often feel unseen & unknown, and want this recognition that their lives matter. It’s a free program event for the participants in our programs, not a fundraiser or widely attended by the public, although sometimes some of the participants’ family members attend.
We hope that you might be interested in saying some words of welcome to help us celebrate the preciousness of the lives that were lost and a blessing to close the ceremony. The ceremony is 12:30 – 2pm, Wed May 31 (rain date Jun 7).
