Longy students took center stage at Cambridge’s Arrow Street Arts on December 18 and 19, 2024, presenting an enchanting twist on Massenet’s classic opera, Cendrillon.

Directed by Nicholas Tocci and conducted by Vocal Studies Department Chair Cailin Marcel Manson, this reimagined version of the beloved fairy tale explored the timeless themes of resilience, love, and self-discovery in a modern context.

In this inventive retelling, Cendrillon was portrayed as a smart and determined young woman who faced the challenges of a media-driven world and a troubled relationship with her stepfamily. Gone were the traditional fairytale elements of old—this princess received her guidance not from a fairy godmother, but from her favorite video game character. With her help, Cendrillon found the strength to overcome her struggles, proving that magic and hope can come in many forms.

The production brought together modern whimsy, a charming love story, and a dash of humor, all while maintaining the heartwarming essence of the original.

If you missed the production in person, don’t worry! You can still experience the magic through a photo gallery, courtesy of Adriana Arguijo Photography. Take a look back and relive the enchanting moments that made Cendrillon so memorable!
