Performance Opportunities

Longy Conservatory Orchestra

The Longy Conservatory Orchestra (LCO) explores a wide range of exciting repertoire with an emphasis on the classical and romantic orchestral canon, but often featuring 20th-century masterpieces and collaborations with living composers in world premieres. Concerts are carefully programmed to highlight the musical connections between composers and musical styles.

The LCO presents concerts in Longy’s Pickman Hall and in off-campus venues such as Sanders Theatre at Harvard University and the Richard B. Fisher Center at Bard College. The LCO collaborates with Longy’s opera department to perform one fully-staged opera each year and with Longy’s composition department in readings and performances of student compositions.

Chamber Music

Georges Longy’s belief in the power of collaboration inspires the central role of chamber music in our conservatory. Students work closely with faculty coaches every semester and explore ensemble playing through coursework, informal readings, and community outreach. In addition to semesterly chamber music concerts and frequent outreach opportunities, student groups may also audition to participate in the year-end Honors Concert and various competitions.

Student Competitions

Longy students in all programs are encouraged to participate in conservatory-wide competitions. Competition winners are showcased in high-profile performances highlighting musical excellence at Longy.
