Brookline Music School (BMS) seeks a dynamic, engaging, and experienced musician and educator to lead the school’s Jazz Ensemble and Rock Bands program. This program is robust and has been well-loved by the Brookline Music School community for decades. The ideal candidate is seeking a long-term opportunity to build upon an already successful program.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Promptly responding to new student inquiries; following up on these inquiries as necessary.
-Managing the recruiting, audition, and placement process for all new and returning students in the program.
-Arranging music as necessary.
-Organizing several performances and other large events.
-Serving as the public presence of the program in the school and greater Brookline community.
-Teaching several ensembles (teaching will be contracted separately from administrative duties).
-Bachelor of Music degree in music performance and/or education; advanced degree(s) preferred.
-A demonstrated passion for working with students aged 10 and older.
-A minimum of three years of experience organizing, teaching, and leading student ensembles.
-Experience arranging jazz, rock, and pop music for student ensembles of varying ability levels.
-Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to coordinate complex schedules and effectively manage faculty and student needs.
-Experience working with standard office software including Word, Excel, and database programs.
-Strategic thinker with demonstrated experience developing programs and coordinating events.
The ideal candidate will have availability to begin in August 2021. BMS seeks a minimum 2-year commitment.
There is also a possibility of teaching private lessons on the candidate’s primary instrument.
