Contemporary Music Leader

First Parish in Concord, Massachusetts (FPC), Unitarian Universalist, invites applications for the position of Contemporary Music Leader.

Music plays an essential role in the spiritual and community life of First Parish, a large, vibrant and historic UU church in Concord, Massachusetts. The Music Ministry of First Parish encourages singers and instrumentalists of all ages and abilities to make music together and to minister to one another, the congregation, and the wider world through music.

The Contemporary Music Leader will lead the Contemporary Vocal Ensemble and Band, an adult ensemble of 20-25 volunteer singers and instrumentalists that provides music for Sunday morning worship services between four and five times a year. The Contemporary Music Leader will also provide music leadership and collaborate in planning our monthly “Open Door” contemporary service, which currently meets on Tuesday evenings at 6pm. Preferred candidate will also be able to provide keyboard for the Youth Gospel Choir, which rehearses from 9am to 9:45 am on Sundays and/or for other services and rehearsals as needed and negotiated.

We seek a leader who inspires and encourages amateur musicians, works collaboratively and understands the role of music in building community, deepening spiritually and making a positive difference in the world.

We seek a musician who is familiar with and excited about sharing music in contemporary gospel, jazz and popular styles and who has skill working with vocalists and band. Keyboard proficiency is preferred. Candidate should have respect for and sympathy with Unitarian Universalist values and principles. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are desirable, as well as the ability to work on a team and take personal initiative.

Salary range of $8,000-10,000, depending upon defined scope of the role and skills, is based on a ten-month, mid-August through mid-June, 6-8 hour/week part-time position. FPC welcomes diversity in its members and its staff.
