St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Marblehead, MA seeks paid choral section leaders to start work as soon as possible. Alto, tenor, or bass needed. The ideal candidate will be able to: lead and support their section vocally while blending with the overall ensemble, sight-read proficiently, sing solos comfortably, relate well with their fellow singers, and arrive to work early. Experience singing in the Episcopal Church or other Anglican traditions is helpful but not required. Please also note that there is a minimal use of incense during most of our church services. Must be available from September through mid-June for one weekly Sunday service at 10:00am (following a 9:00am rehearsal), one weekly rehearsal on Thursdays at 7:30pm, one monthly service of Evensong and Benediction on the first Sunday of the month at 5:00pm (with 4:00pm rehearsal), Christmas Eve in the evening, and several additional evening services and rehearsals, including the days leading up to Easter. Please note that applicants must have their own means of transportation—public transportation to the church on Sunday mornings is not possible because of timing and location. Compensation is $55 per call. Please submit a resume and cover letter to the Director of Music, Raymond Hawkins at firstname.lastname@example.org
Note: At this moment, due to COVID-19 precautions, the volunteer members of our choir are not meeting in person. This means that the current responsibilities of the choral section leaders looks somewhat different than it will post-pandemic. Such responsibilities include singing more solos and duets with adherence whatever physical-distancing protocols are required by national and local governments and the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts as well as submitting monthly virtual choir recordings. We are also currently only rehearsing immediately before services (i.e., no Thursday evening rehearsals). This means that until rehearsals with volunteer choir members resume, there will generally be only 5 to 6 total calls per month. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Founded in 1714, our mission is to seek transformation in God’s grace by worshipping God in prayer, song, and study; loving and serving our neighbor in and outside our parish Community; and being good stewards of God’s creation.
