Sonata for Solo Violin, Op. 27 No. 2 – Eugène Ysaÿe (1858–1931)
Dedicated to Jacques Thibaud, this sonata is part of Ysaÿe’s celebrated cycle of six sonatas for solo violin, works inspired by Paganini’s Caprices and Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas. Sonata No. 2 is permeated with direct quotations from Bach’s Prelude to Partita in E major, intertwined with a modern and passionate harmonic language. Obsession – Prélude: A frenetic and obsessive opening that pays homage to Bach, with an almost mystical energy. Malinconia: An introspective, lyrical movement that evokes a profound sense of nostalgia. Danse des Ombres – Sarabande: A ghostly dance in variations, where the violin seems to converse with figures from the past. Les Furies: An intense and almost apocalyptic finale, full of contrasts and virtuosity, which represents the performer’s internal struggle.
Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 63 – Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953)
Composed in 1935, this concerto marks a period of maturity in Prokofiev’s language, where his modern style becomes more melodic and accessible. Written while the composer was traveling through Europe, the work reflects a synthesis between the classical and the innovative, the lyrical and the rhythmic. I. Allegro moderato: It opens with a simple, cantabile melody in the solo violin, which evolves into a structure rich in contrasts and rhythmic brilliance. II. Andante assai: Poetic and intimate in character, this central movement offers a serene, almost dreamlike lyricism, with delicate orchestral interventions. III. Allegro, ben marcato

Ancestro (Bambuco) – Germán Darío Pérez
This contemporary work for solo violin is part of the Colombian Andean bambuco tradition, one of the country’s most representative genres. Colombian pianist and composer Germán Darío Pérez has dedicated much of his work to exploring traditional rhythms. “Ancestro” is a piece that evokes cultural memory, fusing elements of academic language with the popular essence of bambuco.
