Chih-Yu Cheng was born in Taipei,Taiwan. She began her flute studies with Chia-Ling Wu and Yi-Jhen Chen at the age of nine. Later, she studied with Elzbieta Brandys-O’Neill during her high school in Boston. She pursued her undergraduate at the State University of New York Stony Brook where her teacher was Stephanie Kwak and Hae Jee Cho. In her undergraduate, she was a member of the Stony Brook Silver Winds Flute Ensemble and the Stony Brook University Orchestra. In 2020, She got the Honorable Mention in the undergraduate concerto competition. In spring 2023, she is a member of MIT Symphony Orchestra. Chih-Yu is currently pursuing master’s studies at Longy School of Music where her teacher is Vanessa Mulvey.
