Longy School of Music’s Divergent Studio is back for its 8th season as one of the world’s premier destinations for student performers and composers of new music. Co-directed by trumpeter Andy Kozar and composer and guitarist Aaron Clarke, Divergent studio has brought together hundreds of young performers and composers and welcomed many of the world’s most influential living composers as visiting faculty. Guests have included Pulitzer Prize winner Raven Chacon, Eve Beglarian, Angélica Negrón, Christian Wolff, Han Lash, Sebastian Currier, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, Alex Mincek, Lei Liang, and Mark Applebaum. This year Divergent Studio welcomes Oscar Bettison and Pamela Z in addition to our resident ensemble, loadbang, and Longy’s cutting-edge contemporary music faculty. These thirteen days of intensive collaboration include 10 concerts in which student performers showcase pieces by noted contemporary composers in addition to their peers. Longy’s Divergent Studio is one of the rare and valuable spaces where students are able to indulge in new music and let it be at the forefront of what they do.
