Performance and composition students at Longy’s Divergent Studio present a program titled Divergent Speed. Only 72 hours before this concert, the performers were put into small ensembles and each composer was assigned to write a 60 second piece for their assigned ensemble in less than 24 hours. The ensembles then had 24 hours to learn and rehearse the pieces, and this concert is the public presentation of their work!

In only 6 years of existence and with loadbang as the ensemble-in-residence, Longy’s Divergent Studio has quickly become a major destination for student composers and performers of contemporary music from around the globe. Directed by trumpeter and conductor Andy Kozar, Divergent Studio has brought together hundreds of young performers and composers and welcomed many of the world’s most influential living composers as guest faculty including Pulitzer Prize winner Raven Chacon, Eve Beglarian, Angélica Negrón, Christian Wolff, Han Lash, Sebastian Currier, and Mark Applebaum, and in this year’s session will host Lei Liang, Alex Mincek, and Niloufar Nourbakhsh. These 10 days of Divergent Studio will consist of over 10 concerts, by the faculty and student performers alike and often side-by-side. All concerts are open to the public.
