Yige Chen: composer, producer, singer-songwriter, and keyboardist. His work explores classical chamber music, graphic notation, and new music, searching for sounds that have not yet been marked on the page. Yige Chen is a student of John Morrison.

I am drawn to the borders between styles—the shadow of classical, the texture of romantic, the freedom of improvisation, the undefined sounds of graphic notation. I walk in and out of them, like a writer revising the same sentence over and over—only my language is notes.
Every new attempt is an unfamiliar chord. I never know where it will land, and that uncertainty is precisely why I begin. At the end of all my changes, I am always searching for the same thing: a melody honest enough to stand alone. It doesn’t need to be complex—just as natural as breathing, as unforgettable as a memory.
