SECOND STAGE: Yifan Chen, Voice | In the Name of Love | Graduating Student Project

Tuesday, April 7, 2026   |   7:00 pm 8:30 pm

Yifan Chen is a student of Angela Gooch.

In the Name of Love explores the many dimensions of love through music from different periods and cultures. From the intimacy of art song to the emotional intensity of operatic arias, this program presents a journey through longing, devotion, sorrow, and reflection.
The repertoire spans German Lieder, French mélodie, Italian opera, Baroque sacred music, and contemporary works, offering a diverse yet unified perspective on love as a universal human experience. Each piece reflects a different emotional state, revealing how love can be tender, fragile, passionate, or even painful.
Through this program, the performer invites the audience to experience love not as a single emotion, but as a complex and evolving narrative that transcends language, culture, and time.

Yifan Chen is a soprano currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the Longy School of Music of Bard College. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the Shenyang Conservatory of Music.

Her repertoire spans opera, art song, and contemporary works. She has performed roles such as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Clorinda in La Cenerentola. In addition to her vocal training, she has a strong background in piano, which informs her musical collaboration and interpretation.

Yifan is passionate about exploring the expressive possibilities of the human voice and connecting with audiences through diverse musical styles and languages.
