SECOND STAGE: Wanting Huang, piano | The Expanding Palette | Graduating Student Project

Saturday, May 9, 2026   |   11:00 am 12:00 pm

Wanting Huang is a student of Hugh Hinton.

Mozart – 10 Variations, K. 455
Ten witty variations on a playful theme from Dittersdorf’s singspiel. Each variation explores a different texture, articulation, or character—transforming the same melody into a kaleidoscope of keyboard colors.

Chaminade – Les Sylvains, Op. 60
A sparkling, dance-like piece evoking mythical forest fauns. Quick runs and light touch showcase Chaminade’s elegant blend of French lyricism and technical sparkle.

Bartók – Suite, Op. 14
Four movements of raw, percussive power. Drawing from folk music, Bartók uses dissonance and irregular rhythms to create primal energy, driving motion, and haunting night-music.

Chopin – Scherzo No. 1 in B minor, Op. 20
Explosive, dramatic, and tender by turns. Thunderous outer sections frame a quiet, hymn-like middle—pushing the piano to its emotional and dynamic extremes.

A pianist weaving narratives of heart and storm through Romantic repertoire. Her program ranges from the wit and elegance of Mozart, to the sparkling French brilliance of Chaminade; from the raw, rhythmic energy of Bartók, to the dramatic emotional outbursts of Chopin. For her, music is about connection: uncovering the human story inside the notes and sharing it from the piano bench. She believes great music is not just for experts, and she loves creating a space where everyone feels welcome to connect.
