program notes
This recital revolves around the idea of playing, both as amusement and as transformation.
It explores how people construct, disguise, and rediscover themselves through the act of performance.
To “play” is to pretend, but also to reveal, to shift between sincerity and irony, truth and imagination.
Through humor, imitation, and emotional masks, the characters in these songs navigate the spaces between innocence and awareness, control and surrender.
Each scene becomes a small theater of self sometimes playful, and sometimes painful where identity itself is fluid.
In the end, playing as is not simply acting. It is the process of becoming an experiment in empathy, freedom, and the art of being human.
