SECOND STAGE | Mike Desouvre, saxophone | Identity: Boundaries and Expectations | Graduating Student Project

Friday, March 27, 2026   |   7:00 pm 8:30 pm

Identity: Boundaries and Expectations is an exploration of personal identity, societal perception, and artistic expression. As a Black Haitian classical saxophonist, this concert represents both a celebration of my musical journey and a reflection on the expectations often placed upon artists of color. The program features works that challenge conventional boundaries, pieces that align with who I am as a musician, yet also push against the boxes I am often placed in. Each piece chosen is a part of my story: my love for classical music, my faith, my roots, my curiosity, and my refusal to be limited. You will hear music that celebrates the saxophone’s expressive power; from traditional works to ones never intended for the instrument. Ultimately, this concert is about connection, identity, and courage. It is also an invitation to experience music beyond labels and expectations, to set boundaries while breaking barriers, and to celebrate individuality, while creating a space where music, culture, and spirit unite in harmony.

Mike Désouvré is a student of Seychelle Dunn-Corbin.
