SECOND STAGE : Jessica Yao, piano | The Exotic Soundscape | Graduating Student Project

Saturday, April 25, 2026   |   3:00 pm 4:30 pm

Jessica Yao is a student of Gila Goldstein.

The concept of this concert as the title suggests, is to share and explore some genres of music that are different from Conventional European Classical Music. Some of these composers are rarely mentioned, and their musical characteristics are very distinctive. So I want to use this concert to make their music an auditory “journey” through various regions. Feel the charm of music from foreign cultures and the differences in music between regions.

The inspiration for the repertoire was originally based on Guastavino’s sonatina. When I first listened to it, its first movement made me feel a kind of sadness in the music. This melancholic and beautiful music gave me a lot of new thoughts. I want to present some unique music at the concert, which perhaps not many people have known or heard before. But I hope that these music that have touched me and that I personally like can also bring some surprises to everyone.

Bach and Clara are both German composers, each showcasing distinct musical lines and melodies during their respective periods.

Ginastera and Guasvatino are both Latin American composers, and their rhythmic influences can be felt, while their distinct musical approaches of these two artists from the same area.
