Contemplation by Lamplight
As a young music major studying bassoon performance, I was searching for ways to express my inner voice and hopefully make something beautiful along the way. I started with what I was familiar with, the bassoon, and wrote a jazz ballad that I felt captured a sense of nostalgia, wonder, and awe. However, I felt that the idea was incomplete and that there was more to be told. What came after was a multi-movement piece illustrating different aspects of the human condition. More specifically, those moments where we are alone in a comfortable corner of our home, with nothing else to do but contemplate.

not me nor you
When you are in conflict with your lover, it is easy to assign blame. Yet more often than not, the real conflict lies outside of the minds of the players. Perhaps it’s something greater than both of you, outside of either of your control. This piece is a meditation on and acceptance of that moment.

Out of The Blue
Sometimes life is blue and the only one with the power to change that is yourself. Despite this, you will inevitably find yourself in that place again. This next time however, it will be different. You’ve been here before, familiarized yourself with the blue and its different shades. While getting out may not get any easier, your time there has changed you and made you better for it. The shades start to bring meaning to these feelings and soon enough, you’ll find yourself thankful for having felt them.
