Graduating Student Recital | Eren Brooks, mezzo-soprano | Random Black Girl: Combatting Typecasting in Musical Theater

Eren Samone Brooks, a gifted musician from Jackson, TN, has built an impressive career in music shaped by a strong foundation in community, faith, and education. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Fisk University, where her talents were honed as part of the Grammy-winning Fisk Jubilee Singers. Eren’s musical journey began at age three in the Angel Choir of St. Paul C.M.E. Church, where her lifelong passion for singing took root. Over the years, she has developed her craft through participation in the All-West-Northwest Tennessee Junior and Senior High Choirs, the Quad State Choir, and the Tennessee All-State Choir.

In 2016, Eren’s commitment to music deepened after attending the Governor’s School for the Arts at Middle Tennessee State University. Her performances have since reached national platforms, including singing for the Los Angeles Lakers’ Black History Month celebration and lending background vocals to the Netflix film The Harder They Fall. Her credits also include singing on the tracks “Need a Favor” by Jelly Roll and “Love Can Build a Bridge” by Jelly Roll featuring K. Michelle.

Eren’s dedication extends beyond music; she has been active in Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and Xinos and Kudos, Inc., and in Spring 2022 joined the Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She currently furthers her studies at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Grateful for her vocal talent, Eren credits her success to God and the unwavering support of her parents. Her love for music grows with each new performance, and she is eager to see where her journey takes her next.
