SECOND STAGE: Fatima Hajizada, piano | Resonance | Graduating Student Project

Tuesday, May 12, 2026   |   11:00 am 12:30 pm

Fatima Hajizada is a student of Jessica Osborne.

This recital presents a journey through three centuries of musical expression, beginning with the architectural clarity and spiritual depth of Johann Sebastian Bach. The Prelude and Fugue in F-sharp major from The Well-Tempered Clavier demonstrates Bach’s mastery of counterpoint while combining elegance, balance, and expressive warmth.

Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Op. 31 No. 2, known as the Tempest, contrasts drama and introspection. With its sudden changes of mood, lyrical slow movement, and energetic finale, the sonata reflects Beethoven’s expanding emotional and structural language.

The program continues with chamber works by Paul Juon and Jean Françaix. Juon’s Rêverie offers lyricism and rich Romantic color, while Françaix’s Trio for Piano, Alto, and Clarinet brings wit, charm, and refined neoclassical elegance.

After intermission, Grażyna Bacewicz’s Piano Sonata No. 2 presents a bold twentieth-century voice, combining rhythmic vitality, expressive lyricism, and virtuosic brilliance. The recital concludes with Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s beloved song Sevgili Canan, a tribute to Azerbaijani musical heritage and lyrical beauty.
