SECOND STAGE: Chen Yang, Drums | Converging Currents (Western & Eastern) | Graduating Student Project

Sunday, March 22, 2026   |   7:00 pm 8:30 pm

Welcome to “Converging Currents.” Tonight’s concert is not merely a performance; it is an exploration. It is a journey to the musical crossroads where the ancient, modal traditions of the East meet the rhythmic and harmonic freedom of Western jazz. We have gathered to witness a sonic dialogue that seeks not to dilute the integrity of either tradition, but to create a third space—a space of mutual respect, spontaneous creation, and profound musical discovery.

Chen Yang is a student of Neal Smith.

Chen Yang is a force of rhythm and passion, a jazz drummer who transforms beats into stories and stages into worlds. Chen Yang from China, she was break most of the drum powerful of female drummer. Her drumming is not just about keeping time—it’s about creating emotion, energy, and connection.
She is a performer or not projector of music. She more prefers to give every music which it was already published to use different ways or emotion to express different feeling of one tune. But she also will break herself to find many new things, she doesn’t like to get in a groove all the time.
