SECOND STAGE: Alexander Mokritsky, piano | Homage to Music: Sonatas | Graduating Student Project

Tracing more than a century of musical transformation, “Homage to Music: Sonatas” presents a journey through the many voices of the sonata genre.

From the dramatic farewell and triumphant return of Beethoven’s Les Adieux to the dreamlike landscapes of Alexander Scriabin, the intensity of Sergei Prokofiev, and Medtner’s introspective Sonata-Reminiscenza, where virtuosity gives way to reflection and inner lyricism, the program showcases the changing emotional and expressive possibilities of piano music.

Completing the journey is Maurice Ravel’s elegant Sonatine, a work that pays homage to classical form while opening the door to the refined colors and atmosphere of the twentieth century.

Alexander Mokritsky, born into a family of pianists, began his musical journey at the Kiev Lysenko School of Music, continuing his studies at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music, from which he graduated in 2023. Since 2024, he pursues his Master’s degree at Longy School of Music at Bard College with Grammy-nominated pianist, Professor Andrius Žlabys.

Alexander has performed extensively in Europe, the UK, and the US, and participated in master classes with such renowned musicians as Irena Portenko, Milana Chernyavska, Bruno Monsaingeon, and Asaf Zohar. His repertoire ranges from Baroque to 20th-century and includes composers such as Bach, Chopin, Ravel, Prokofiev, and others. Alexander was awarded a New Horizons Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and School for the 2026 season, where he will study with Professors Arie Vardi and Yoheved Kaplinsky. Starting in the fall of 2026, Alexander will begin his DMA program at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts under the mentorship of Andrius Zlabys. In 2026, Alexander plans to release his first concert CD, featuring works by Chopin, Medtner, Beethoven, and Bach.

Along with performing, Alexander is an accomplished audio and video engineer, collaborating with artists such as Joshua Bell, Theodore Kuchar, Roman Lopatynskyi, and Gautier Capuçon. In 2025, he co-founded Virtuoso Alliance, a non-profit organization that helps talented young musicians across the US build their careers by finding performance opportunities, producing and distributing recordings, raising funds for various projects, providing comprehensive support, and promoting fellow artists.
