The Multifaceted Career: Lauren Flaherty

Wednesday • November 13, 2019   |   12:00 pm

Longy School of Music of Bard College is proud to present The Multifaceted Career Speaker Series featuring conversations with musicians who defy categorization. As an essential component of Longy’s career coaching program, this series fosters an exploration of how we (re)define individual success in our diverse and growing field.

Lauren Flaherty is pleased to be Longy’s Director of Student Financial Assistance. A Boston native, she earned her undergrad from Berklee College of Music (Vocal Performance and Songwriting) and her master’s from NEC (Musicology with a focus on Ethnomusicology/Jazz). She has been in Financial Aid for fifteen years and has enjoyed a side career as a singer/songwriter, playing electric and acoustic guitar and piano.

Lauren has performed original music solo and with a rock band at numerous venues from New England to New York City. She has self-released several albums and EPs and has licensed her music to television shows such as Dance Moms, the MTV Movie Awards, the UFC, and Bravo’s Real Housewives. She has been a BMI Songwriter-In-Residence at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, and received a BMI Hit Song Bonus for her original song “Just Rain”.

In 2017 Lauren successfully crowdfunded an album using Indiegogo. Her project caught regional attention and she was featured on the cover of the Boston Metro.

Today, Lauren enjoys life with her family, and getting a kick out of using traditional music training to compose rock music for television.
