Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Fernando Michelin came to Boston in 1989 to study at Berklee College of Music. He has since remained in the Boston area and has undoubtedly made his impact on the jazz scene. His past bands have included bassist and vocalist Esperanza Spalding, drummer Richie Barshay, and Jeff Ballard. His discography includes over 13 albums as a band leader/composer. In addition to being a band leader, Michelin has worked as a producer and as a sideman. He helped create the awarded “Amores Torcidos” with Katie Viqueira and as a sideman he has performed with John Pattitucci, Eddie Gomez, Dave Liebman and many more. He is also an educator, working as a member of the applied faculty at Tufts University, and Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music.
