A soprano comfortable in both classical music and musical theatre, Cailin Smith dares to lean into the uncomfortable, use music as a mode of advocacy, and educate young audiences. Cailin is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at the Longy School of Music, studying with Dr. Dana Varga. Recent highlights include James Kallembach’s Antigone; Titine in Libby Larsen’s The Silver Fox; and four original micro-operas at Longy. Smith made her opera debut in Florence, Italy as Frasquita in Carmen and sang with The Handel Choir of Baltimore and their chamber group, The Chandos Singers, from 2018-2021.
Praised for writing music that is “richly dynamic, inventive, and captivating,” and that “blends narrative with fun and transformative harmony,” Boston and Providence-based composer and violinist/violist E. Isaiah Hopper is a musician and artist who aims to build worlds that temporarily transport listeners outside their own to experience stories and become engrossed in new sonic environments. Their work merges forms of the Romantic and Neo-Classical eras with tonalities that span the 20th and 21st Centuries. Hopper has written for an array of ensembles, covering large works for orchestra, such as their song cycle One and the Same for Mezzo-Soprano and Orchestra, as well as a variety of solo and chamber works, such as their Moderato Misterioso for Strings, and Dreams of Witchlight written for the Gaia Quartet. Hopper is currently pursuing their Master of Music degree at the Longy School of Music, studying with composer-director Amy Beth Kirsten.
