Graduating Student Recital • EARTH AND AIR • Hao Ding, piano

Thursday • April 20, 2023   |   8:00 pm 9:00 pm

Free – $20.00

All Longy students present full recitals as part of their education and ongoing evolution as artists. They are charged with thinking critically about what stories they tell, whose voices to amplify, and who’s in the room for their event while also considering how to use performance spaces in innovative ways and how to truly engage audiences and create interactive music experiences.

Hao Ding is a student of Wayman Chin.

Born in Heilongjiang Province in China, Hao Ding began learning the piano when he was six years old as his parents thought it would be a good hobby to develop. When he was preparing to major in music for college during high school, his parents thought he could also enter a non-music school without having to go through music, as many kids in his hometown chose music because of their bad grades. Thus, he started his Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science and Technology at Chang’an University in Xi’an, China. He chose this major merely out of market needs without truly loving it. Thus, during the four years, he never stopped piano lessons even after he received my BE in 2018. Immediately after graduated, found a job teaching piano and music theory in Beijing for two years and taught cumulatively 32 students in both individual and group lesson settings. Even though having a job, he never stopped practicing and catching opportunities such as masterclasses and auditions. He studied in Longy with plenty of scholarship and collaborative piano fellowship during MM and GPD. As someone who has more than 400 vocal repertoires on hand, excellent sight-reading skills, and significant practical experiences in recitals, his service as a collaborative pianist comes in handy. In addition, with his professional command, teaching experience, unique background, Hao Ding shows sensitivity in his piano performance.
