On December 1st, Danny Rivera, joined by accompanists and arrangers Gavin Rushing (Organ) and Matthew Savage (Piano), will make their debut in America’s oldest extant Black church, The African Meeting House, to celebrate the release of Songs of Free Men.
Rivera has been working on this sustained, centuries-long freedom project of Negro Spirituals since 2020 and will perform the work publicly for the first time ever this December.
This performance concludes Rivera’s studies at the Longy School of Bard College where he studied with Vocal Chair Dr. Corrine Byrne & Professor Ashleigh Gordon. Celebrate the project, Songs of Free Men, and hear all new arranged African folk songs that shaped American culture and music!
